ODTUG Kscope18 is unique in its offering of one full day – a choice of four symposiums – at no additional charge. Start your week of education with this year’s Sunday Symposium for your track.

APEX

The APEX Symposium includes sessions delivered exclusively by the APEX Development Team. This year we kick things off with the Big Kahuna himself—Mike Hichwa from Oracle Corporation. Then, the people responsible for developing Oracle Application Express’s new features will share their in-depth knowledge with you. This year is all about APEX 18.1.

Room: Southern Hemisphere III, Fifth Level

9:00 – 10:15 a.m.

Make AppDev Fun Again, with the Oracle RAD Stack
Mike Hichwa, Oracle Corporation

The RAD Stack approach incorporates everything you need for a successful business application. This includes REST, today’s dominant architectural style and agreed-upon method for tying applications together; Oracle Database, the fastest and most versatile database in the world, available for free or for Enterprise installations, on-prem, or in the Oracle Cloud; and Application Express—the fastest way to build responsive, flexible, and durable web applications for the Oracle Database.

10:30 – 11:00 a.m. | Break

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Oracle APEX 18.1 New Features
Marc Sewtz, Oracle Corporation

Oracle Application Express 18.1 focuses on declaratively integrating data sources from remote databases and extending applications running on the cloud via REST. A new Create Application Wizard enables you to add components and features to new and existing applications. Upgrading to the latest Oracle JET and jQuery JavaScript libraries will further allow APEX to take advantage of new and improved data visualizations and widgets. In this session, we will show those new capabilities and show some of the numerous enhancements to JET Charts and the Interactive Grid.

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. | Lunch

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

APEX 18 and the REST of the World
Carsten Czarski, Oracle Corporation

One of the marquee features of Application Express 18.1 is the improved support to consume external REST services and REST-enabled SQL. In this session, you will learn how to reference external REST services as Web Source Modules and how to create reports, charts, calendars, or other components using these. Remote Oracle database can be accessed as REST Enabled SQL services: Create an APEX component driven by an SQL query as before—but have it executed on a remote Oracle database over a REST interface using HTTPS and JSON. This session will also cover how to work with external data sources in custom PL/SQL code or as a plug-in developer. Tips and tricks will round up the session.

2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

The Most Amazing Universal Theme Yet
Shakeeb Rahman, Oracle Corporation

The Universal Theme aims to empower developers with the tools they need to build beautiful, responsive, accessible apps without becoming experts in HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. This session will introduce you to some of the improvements and updates to Universal Theme in the latest version of APEX, and how to take full advantage of all that it has to offer. Attend this session to learn how the latest release of APEX contains the most amazing version of the Universal Theme yet.

3:00 – 3:30 p.m. | Break

3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Building APEX Apps for Everybody!
Anthony Rayner, Oracle Corporation

A hearing aid allowing someone to hear music for the first time; smart glasses displaying captions enabling a deaf person to enjoy the theater; a remotely assisted blind person walking an unknown busy street; glasses allowing people to perceive colors for the first time. Technology smashes through perceived barriers to participation and enjoyment, and truly enables all. This is equally true in the digital world, where, with the right approach, technology can again break through these barriers.
In this session, you will learn what the “right approach” is on the web, and how APEX can help you work toward this. We will also talk about what “disability” really means; how it’s not just about those with obvious disabilities, but either through circumstance or injury, how anyone can face certain limitations or restrictions at some point in their lives, and therefore how thinking inclusively about your design and development can truly benefit everyone. Starting today, let’s all build APEX apps that anyone can use and love!

4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

State of the Union
ACE Alumni Joel Kallman, Oracle Corporation

One of Joel Kallman's favorite quotes is, "When our customers and partners are successful, we're successful!" One of his passions in life is serving Oracle customers, helping them to be successful with the Oracle Database, Oracle REST Data Services, and Oracle APEX. He also enjoys celebrating their success. In this State of the Union address, Joel will present the successes and challenges from the past year, and what to expect from Oracle and the APEX community in the exciting year ahead.

Database

This year, the Database Symposium will be super-charged and high energy. Sunday at Kscope18 for Database Developers and Admins will be a day full of fun, learning, questions, and answers. We’ll kick it off with a keynote from very special guest, Mike Hichwa from Oracle Corporation. Then, we’ll continue with short rapid-fire sessions, covering a wide variety of topics.

This all-day event gives you the chance to discuss existing and up-and-coming features with some of the best product managers and experts in the field.

EPM

Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud has seen tremendous growth and maturation since Kscope17. If you were at the Sunday Symposium last year, you were among the first to see some of the latest additions before they became publicly available. With the increased coverage of our cloud solutions across the EPM/CPM spectrum, there has never been a better time to take a deeper look.

Whether your existing EPM deployments are on-premises, cloud, or a little of both, this symposium is one you definitely don’t want to miss. We will cover the strategy and roadmap for all your deployment investments, continuing our tradition of treating attendees to first looks at the latest innovations and current work in progress.

Presented by Oracle EPM product management and development leaders, this symposium will give you unfiltered insight into our key R&D initiatives. Our goal at the EPM Sunday Symposium is to expose attendees to the latest and greatest from Oracle EPM development in these areas, offering you the opportunity to learn more in the detailed conference sessions. In keeping with our goal, the EPM Symposium's agenda reflects the late-breaking R&D efforts in the cloud that are not covered by sessions, while also relaying key efforts for on-premises EPM. We look forward to your attendance at this year's symposium.
