As ODTUG secretary, I oversee the election process for board members. We don’t always do a perfect job with this, but we try.
There are nine great candidates this year. Read all about them here. Please, please, please, if you are a paid ODTUG member, get out and vote. It takes just a moment, and now more than ever, your voice can only be heard if you stand up and vote.
In years past, I have written often about the election, which can be seen at the links below:
Today, I want to briefly discuss a topic about the election that is often overlooked. We, as a board, try to do our jobs very well, and we also try to avoid tipping the scales when the voices of the members are involved. What do I mean by this? Well, we as board members are always trying to identify future leaders, providing them volunteer opportunities when they ask for them, mentoring the next group of leaders, and so on. Of course, we may privately encourage folks to consider running for the ODTUG Board in this process. The key word there is privately.
I’m not saying it has never happened, but we really try to stay out of the public endorsement business while on the board. Because if that happens, some might think that we are trying to put our thumb on the scale. We really would like to have elections between the candidates themselves, not between who the board would like to see or not see sitting next to them.
Does that mean that we don’t have our individual favorites? Not a chance. I have my favorites. And I can name them right here (in alphabetical order, by last name):
Karen Cannell, Tim German, Eugene Mauro, Helen Sanders, Teal Sexton, David Silverstrim, Jake Turrell, Wayne Van Sluys, and Neviana Zhgaba
There are my favorites this year!
See what I did? No endorsement from me publicly, unless all of them are endorsed.
My best wishes to all nine of you. You will all receive a call or communication from me directly once the election is over and the results have been verified.
I’m glad I’m not running this year. With that group, I think I would probably finish dead last!
