ODTUG and IOUG Offer Exciting Agenda at MOUG Fall Conference

Are you going to be in Chicago on September 22, 2015? If so, you don't want to miss the ODTUG/IOUG Leadership Track at the MOUG Fall Conference. ODTUG and IOUG have pulled together some of their best leadership presenters to deliver this incredible content:

Futures Keynote: Innovation & the Future - IOUG ODTUG Leadership Keynote
Rich Niemiec, Rolta
10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

This presentation will cover the cycles of innovation in the world and Oracle’s recent acceleration. We’ll then look at the current acceleration of the cloud, the big data revolution, and some of the big data solutions out there, including Oracle’s big data solution. We will review the role that both Google and Facebook have played in the big data ecosystem and also how other NoSQL databases such as Cassandra and MongoDB fit in. We’ll then look at the Internet of Things (IOT), which will drive big data and the cloud even faster. This presentation will close with a demonstration of an actual robot that high school kids now build regularly.

Oracle Database Developers: The Most Important Programmers on Earth
Steven Feuerstein, Oracle Corporation
1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

In this unusual and possibly provocative presentation, Steven Feuerstein explores:

  • the nature of data
  • how humans use and rely on data
  • why the relational model and SQL most closely correspond to how our brains deal with data (sets, patterns)
  • why SQL has such staying power
  • why PL/SQL is such a critical layer on top of SQL (enforce security, integrity, performance, maintainability)

Being a Leader in the Tech Community
Sarah Craynon Zumbrum, interRel Consulting
2:15 - 3:15 p.m.

In the Information Age, our questions are answered almost as quickly as we hit the “Enter” button on our keyboard. However, not all answers are as trustworthy as others. We all have our go-to sites and people for quality answers, but how did they get to the point of being the authority on those subjects? How did they become leaders in their fields? This talk will discuss different tech leaders and what made them stand out in their field. Also, find out how you can stand out in your field amongst giants.

How to Be a Technologist and a Leader
Michelle Malcher, Wells Fargo
3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Being in technology does not mean having to focus on scripting, troubleshooting technical issues, and performing maintenance tasks all day. You might even be practicing leadership skills without completely recognizing it. So what happens when technology professionals start to bring leadership into the everyday? What are the skills that are needed, even if you are not managing others or in a team lead position? This is a discussion on enhancing the practice of leadership while remaining technical.

And as an added bonus, Steven Feuerstein will also be presenting in the Developer Track:

All About the Function Result Cache
Steven Feuerstein, Oracle Corporation
2:15 - 3:15 p.m.

The Function Result Cache, added in Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition, offers developers a way to dramatically reduce the amount of time it takes to retrieve data that is requested repeatedly by database sessions (specifically, when the same rows of a table are fetched much more frequently than they are changed). This cache is stored in the SGA, shared across all sessions in the instance, and automatically purged of "dirty data" by the Oracle Database. Every application running on 11.1 or higher should be taking advantage of this feature. Best of all, there is minimal impact on your code to start using this feature!

You do not want to miss out on these sessions. Visit www.moug.org today to reserve your spot!
