Alithya

*This webinar is eligible for (1) CPE credit. To receive the credit attendees must be a Full (paid) ODTUG member, attend the entire webinar, answer all poll questions and fill out the evaluation form that will be sent out at the end of the webinar.

The new Oracle EPBCS Workforce business process has a complex framework which allows for planning at both the employee and job level. Through a live demo, the session will demonstrate how this framework can be configured in three scenarios—configuring what comes out of the box "as-is", post configuration and customization using the custom expense property, and finally and more importantly a methodology to scale the workforce framework by adding another custom dimension (please note that the assumptions plan type doesn't allow the adding of dimensions).

Learning Objectives:

Attendees will learn what is happening between the three plan types being spawned when Workforce business process and all its features are enabled.
Attendees will learn what happens with only job or employee-based planning enablement.

 Stay Out of APEX Debt!
ACE Director.jpg Scott Spendolini, Viscosity North America

Technical debt is a term often used to describe projects that continue to cost an organization money each year. Often poorly designed or built by novices, these applications are not only difficult to maintain, but also make an organization less efficient and even vulnerable to security flaws.

With APEX, there’s no excuse to wind up in this situation. Out of the box, APEX offers plenty of functionality to solve most business problems. This session will review the vast and rich set of APEX components while offering advice on what not to do when building APEX applications to ensure that you stay debt free.

Top 10 Ways to Totally Mess Up an AWR Analysis
 ACE Director.jpg Craig Shallahamer, Orapub

You think you have seen it all...and then you see something new. I have studied hundreds of AWR reports and thought through thousands of performance scenarios. While I know how to use an AWR or Statspack report to analyze Oracle performance, I have also learned how to totally mess up the analysis.

There are some obvious ways to totally invalidate your analysis. But there are also some subtle mess ups that fool you into thinking your time-based analysis is rock solid when it's worthless and probably misleading.

Join me for a lighthearted session as we explore what NOT to do.

Python and Terraform for the Oracle Cloud DBA
 Jessica Sharp, Infolob

The cloud is more than just your database on someone else’s server in someone else's data center. Moving to the cloud and managing it is more than clicking some buttons on a website and moving the data in. Come see what you need to know about Terraform as a cloud DBA to gracefully automate the creation of your cloud infrastructure using any cloud platform. Shift from Bash scripting to Python scripting to manage the cloud and your databases after you migrate. Join me as I break down how the spirit of tools like Python and Terraform blend with the evolution of the DBA.

John Taylor, Vertical Edge Consulting Group and ACE.png Jason Jones, Applied OLAP

Buzzword Breakdown – Blockchain, Big Data, IoT, Machine Learning
 Tom Blakeley, Performance Architects

Blockchain, Big Data, IoT, Machine Learning, AI: People throw around these buzzwords so much, we all think that everyone knows what they're doing, but they don't! This session aims to give participants a “safe space” to learn, a foundational knowledge of the technical lingo we hear daily, and a sense of what it might mean for the future. We will tie this in with technology and functional processes to help better understand their potential impact—and how we might decide to use one of them seriously!

From our ODTUG Kscope19 Partners at Datavail - Couples Therapy: Getting Finance & IT to Play Nice
Doug Hahn and Chuck Czajkowski, Datavail

Finance: “IT knows we’re having problems and that apps are running slow, but they keep saying the systems are fine!”

IT: “Why does Finance always have to nag, nag, nag? We’ve told them that servers are NOT the bottleneck!”

In any relationship, it’s often difficult to understand the needs and wants of others. The business relationship between Finance and IT is no different. In this webinar, we will use real psychology points, IT resources, and management techniques—and some eloquent tongue-in-cheek humor—to show how organizations can avoid a costly divorce and years of therapy.

Join us for this presentation that will be both entertaining AND informative. We promise we won’t make you talk about your feelings. But armed with the knowledge of what both sides want and need, you can resolve conflict between Finance and IT and move forward more efficiently.

Oracle Database In-Memory – Enabling Real-Time Analytics
Andy Rivenes,  Oracle Corporation

Oracle Database In-Memory introduces a new in-memory columnar format that is compatible with all existing applications. This session will detail what motivated Oracle to develop this new technology and how it works alongside the traditional row format to provide a unique “dual format” architecture. This session will explore how Database In-Memory enables "Real-Time Analytics" by allowing analytic style queries to be run directly on source data. It will also explore the key performance enhancing features of Database In-Memory including in-memory scans, predicate push down, hash joins with bloom filters, vector group by aggregation, and new high-performance features like In-Memory Expressions and Join Groups.
